Fun at the Kids Food Festival (NYC Bryant Park)

So family headed to the Kids Food Festival at Bryant Park in New York City. We had a blast tasting new foods and snacks for kids. There were tons of activities for kids to do and it was all centered around healthy flavorful food. We even met some amazing Chefs and kids who were enjoying the event. We had a chance to talk to Tristin and Tyler from Tristin & Tyler's Tales from the City. They were a lot of fun too.

I had so much fun at the festival even on a cold winter day in NYC.

A Spa Evening with Luzern Laboratories

During New York Fashion week I attended a fabulous event for Luzern Laboratories, a luxury skincare line. The event was on a Sunday evening and it was the perfect pre-work week event. Let's just say I was treated pretty special that night, along with a room full of trendy New Yorkers. The event was held at the gorgeous Hudson Hotel Library. The room was filled with Luzern products to try and check out and other beauty services that kept the crowd busy. Ladies you will love this skincare line.

The highlight of my evening was my mini-oxygen facial. Not only was it my first time having an oxygen facial, but it was also my first time using Luzern products. I was instantly relaxed by the aroma coming from the products. I absloutely love products that have a refreshing smell that calms you. The Luzern reps explained each product that they were applying and why. Luzern uses a Preservative Free/Pure Processing system, which allows them to keep sensitive active ingredients safe, making them more effective in producing superior results. I'm very picky about moisturizers, but I'm definitely sold on their pure oxygen anti-aging moisturizer (Force De Vie Creme Intensive). I've been using it since the event. The moisturizer is light weight, smells great and leaves my skin feeling soft.

This is, what I call, a mini beauty bag that was added in the fabulous gift bag they gave us for attending the event. Have A Ball With Bright Starts Toys

I had a ball with Bright Starts Toys last week. Bright Starts has added several new toys to their line of Laugh-Out-Loud fun toys from their Having a Ball Collection. And I definitely had a ball and I'm positive your kids will too. They have a variety of toys for toddlers and infants and I had the opportunity to check them out. Last week was the International Toy Fair in NYC and it's the time of year I call "Toy Time". So in honor of Toy Time I had the chance to attend a special toy launch event with Bright Starts. Check out my favorite picks from their new toys below.

One thing that seperates Bright Starts toys from the rest is their use of balls within their toys. Children, especially infants and toddlers, love things that move and roll, so I'm sure they'll love some of the fun these toys will bring to your home. So, here are my favorites;

1. All Star Game Zone - This is what I call the perfect all-in-one activity toy. Your kids can have tons of fun with this one. Your kids can play baseball, basketball, golf and soccer with this activity zone. They can also make-up their own games, maybe even hockey if they want. There's a digital score board that lights up and counts. There are ball drops, sounds, lights and more fun that comes with this activity zone, such as a soft plastic bat, basketball, soccer ball, baseball, and gulf club with 3 balls. It's recommended for ages 12-36 months and it's available at Toys "R" US for $49.99.

2. Safari Sounds Music Learning Table - This toy is so cool because the legs come off and your baby can use for sitting or standing fun. As your child grows and begins to stand, then you can attach the legs. How awesome is that? It's recommended for ages 3-36months. It also come sin the color pink. It's available at Walmart for $29.99.

3. Pop & Roll Roadster - I absolutely love baby's first car or in this case roadster. This is a great way for baby's to use those gross motor skills to get their roadser moving and then of course they can have loads of fun with balls. They can drop balls in the steering wheel and watch them ove around the see though hood. hey can aso launch the balls and hear silly sounds. This is perfect for ages 12-36 months. This product is available at Toys "R" Us and Target and it retails for $34.99.

4. Pop & Roll Roadster - This item comes in two different colors, pink and red.

A Day with Marionette Puppets & Puppet Show Family Pack Giveaway

I had the most amazing experience at the Swedish Cottage Marrionette Theater in NYC's Central Park. I was invited to see their new marionette puppet show, "Little Miss Muffet's Monster Sitting Service". The show transformed me right back to childhood. As a child I loved going to puppet shows. My mother always took me to see marionette puppet shows at the Bill Beard Theater in NYC, which is no longer in business. The Swedish Cottage Marionette Theater shows are funded by the City Parks Foundation. The City Parks Foundation has a 20 year legacy of enriching and improving parks and communities across all five boroughs of New York City.

Live puppet shows are magical for kids. Like, Kervin Peralta (Puppeteer) said in the video, "It's like a toy theater". The reactions of the children when the curtains open and puppets take to the stage is priceless. This particular show, "Little Miss Muffet's Monster Sitting Service", created a modern version of the classic nursery rhyme. the show was unique, fun, engaging and full of surprises. I absolutely loved it right along with the 30 or so kids that were in the audience. What can I say, I'm a big kid at heart.

If you've or will be visiting the New York City area in the next several months, then you have to take the family to see this show. It's a great family show and it's so affordable. Even if you're not in the New York City area, you can still take your family to see a live marionette puppet show near you. There are marionette puppet theaters across the country. Introduce your kids to live theater through puppet shows. They won't be disappointed.

Who loves Girl Scout Cookies? I do! I do! I am definitely a firm believer in the mission of the Girl Scouts. As a child I was a Girl Scout, I was troop leader for two years and I always support their cookie campaign (not just because the cookies are yummy). I love to support girls who are on a mission to fulfill a goal. The sale of Girl Scout cookies is the largest girl-led business in the country. Girl Scouts offers amazing benefits for girls, such as building leadership skills, team-building skills, responsibility, goal setting and more. So, when a co-worker of mine asked me to support her cousin and purchase a couple of boxes, how could I resist. Her cousin is only a few boxes away from earning a badge. Exciting! But, what's even more exciting for me are the new choices of cookies. Did you know they have a dulce de leche cookie? Mmmmmmm, that's definitely on my list. What are your favorite Girl Scout cookies? Celebrity Mom Halle Berry Will Launch New Shoe Line (Wedge Options)

Another celebrity mom has added the title of "Shoe Designer" to her resume. Halle Berry isn't necessarily known for her love of shoes, but she is stylish (love her style), so I'm assuming she'll bring some gorgeous choices right to our finger tips. Her line features a few wedge options (shown in pictures). The wedge she's wearing with her shorts is actually a cute day shoe, especially for a teacher like me who's always running from schoool to school. I love a cute wedge because they can be so comfortable and I'm a wedge fanatic. Her line will first debut in European stores in March.

Her new shoe line is being launched by the brand Deichmann. Check out the courtesy pictures provided by Deichmann. What do you think of the sneak peek of the line? Do you see anything you'd wear? They definitely look comfy. I'm sure comfort was important to her since she's a busy mommy running around. What celeb-designer shoe lines do you love?

A Broadway Play About Family Dynamics - Stick Fly

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to spend a little family time with my sister and see a Broadway play about what else...family. You may have read the reviews or heard the buzz about one of Broadway's newest plays, Stick Fly. It's a play about race, class, family dynamics and the imperfect world of a family. The play is juicy from the start and as it goes on the secrets of the characters start to unravel. Everyone can relate to this play in their own unique way. It reminds you that no family is perfect no matter how great they look from the outside. It actually touched me deeply, because I related to many of the chacters but especially the youngest son or the baby of the family. He always tried to make his dad and brother proud of him. That sounds so familiar to me, since I'm the baby of my parents four (3 girls & 1 boy). After my sister and I saw it, my mother, brother and sister-in-law had to check it out too. So, you know we've had long discussions about it, becasue it's just that kind of play. It gets you talking. One of the main points I took away from the play is that you're stuck with your family and they are who they are. Like it or love it! It also touched on the ways in which people handle situations that affect the entire family. I don't want to say too much, but I will say you have to see it.

Did I mention that the cast of the play is absolutely magnificent? There are some real talented actors gracing the stage in Stick Fly.

Gyms Are Offering More for Families

I try to get to the gym at least 2-3 times per week and sometimes it's just not possible. So, I can imagine how difficult it is for moms to make time in their busy schedule for some "me fitness time". However, over the last couple of years I have seen many gyms, including mine, add childcare facilities, children's classes and lower the age for members. I think these changes are great. As soon as the childcare center in my gym opened it was packed the first day and the evening classes were packed as well. I'm happy to see these changes, which not only allows busy, moms and dads more options but it also sends a positive message to your children that health and fitness is important. Children always learn by your actions, so if they see you going to the gym regularly then when they get older they will most likely follow in your footsteps. And we can't forget the good old YMCA, where I always was as a kid. YMCA's across the country offer great family packages and classes. So, check it out. Did you know there are now Zumba classes for kids? I love Zumba!

Your Little Girl & the Age of the Princess

Hey guys, it's been a while since I've posted. The holidays, family and then a loss in my family slowed things down for me, but I'm back and I'm ready to get right back into great conversation, chit chat and fun stuff. So, let's get the conversation going and talk about raising little girls in the age of the princess.

I recently read an article about raising girls in the age of the princess. The article talked about the messages that are being sent to our little girls through media, toys and from us. They mentioned the fact that so much of the emphasis being placed on beauty steers some girls away from pursuing careers in the sciences and math. I'm a teacher and an auntie of 2 nieces, so I have thought about this and discussed it a number of times. I am not against the color pink, girly outfits or tutus, because I love it. I do not believe there is anything wrong with dressing your little girls up to look cute. However, I do believe that girls need a balance and all the focus should not be placed on just looking pretty. From a young age I think it's important to talk to your children, especially girls, about fairy tales being exactly that, a fairy tale. It's important for us to talk to our girls about what they watch on TV and what it means to them. So often, they interpret things differently than we do. Encouraging girls to pursue their true interest, whether it be soccer, ballet, basketball, swimming, cheerleading or piano, is important. It's not easy being a parent with all of the reality shows and emphasis on beauty. It's hard for me to keep up with what's going on, but it's important we do, because our kids are watching it or if they aren't one of their classmates may be. You never know what may influence them, so just keep the conversations ongoing. Like, I mentioned before I have 2 nieces. My sister is a single parent so it's difficult for her to stay on top of everything. My other sister and I help out with my teenage niece. We each talk to her at least once a week and follow her on all her social media outlets, like facebook. We just keep the conversation going and the lines of communication open. And we always push her to pursue her interest.

A Little Inspiration from Bethenny Frankel

I had a great end to my week and start of the weekend. I attended an event at Barnes & Noble in Union Square, NYC on Thursday. Bethenny Frankel, popular Bravo reality star and founder of Skinny Girl and Bethenny Bakes was the special guest and boy did she have a huge turn out. She arrived on time at 7PM, but in order to get a seat and a book signed you had to arrive almost 2 hours early. Luckily I was super early. Her journey has inspired me and she's definitely one of my favorite reality stars. What I've always like best about her was her non-apologetic, tell-it-like-it-is personality. She doesn't hold her tongue for anyone, she tells it like it is and she shares real emotion on her shows. When she spoke at this event she was exactly who I fell in love with on television. She spoke about not giving up on your dreams, not excepting no as the final answer, surrounding yourself with positive people and stepping away from the pack. Definitely words that continue to inspire me. She also briefly talked about balancing it all as a mom, which she proudly said she doesn't know how the f$%# she does it. She just does! She makes her life work for her family and I respect that.

I made it to the Union Square, NYC Barnes & Noble a couple of hours before Bethenny was scheduled to arrive. So, I had time to snap a few pics of the crowd at 5:30PM, the Union Square park and of course Barnes & Noble.

When Bethenny arrived the crowd erupted in cheers, ooo's and ah's and the cameras and cell phones were snapping away. She was definitely well received. And check out her shoes, they were so hot! She wore her classic red and looked like a fab mama.

Bethenny spoke for about 10-15 minutes about her book and about being Bethenny. She even took a few questions from the audience. After the talk and Q&A, she greeted her fans and signed books and bottles of her popular Skinny Girl Beverages.

Every Day is a New Day! Happy New Year!

Happy New Year Everyone! I hope you ended 2011 nice and started 2012 with a bang. The new year always gives me a feeling of a fresh start, but truthfully I know that every day is a new day or a new start. I promised myself that I wouldn't go crazy with making an extremely long list of New Year's resolutions. Instead I'm telling myself that I will work on myself a little each day. I will make small changes that will hopefully become a part of my life and stick. However there are a few things that are priority in my head and they all have to do with family. You can call it my Family New Year's resolution. Okay, let's just say these are a few things that I'd like to work on and improve over time. Since I love my family and they play a huge role in my life, why not have them at the top of my list. Did you make any New year's Reolutions this year? Do you believe in New Year's Resolutions?

These are just a few of the things I'm working on. My number one is so important becasue my niece is now 15 (gasp) and I love talking to her about her life and dreams. Do you have a list? How long is your list?

It's been an amazing year for So family. Through my website and blog, I've been able to share important family information, trends, activities, fun and more. It was hard to choose only 10 things to share with you from this year, but here are my top 10 in no particular order. I have to throw in there that I've met some amazing people throughout this year including bloggers that I now consider to be friends. I look forward to an exciting new year. 1. Cooking with Kids - I attended an event with Chef Candice Kumai, the National Pasta Association and children from an After School Program in New Jersey. Watching kids having fun in the kitchen is such a joyful experience. They have so much fun learning news things, cooking and then tasting their own creations. Great lessons can be learned in the kitchen. Happy Cooking!

2. Beyonce is Pregnant - This was a fun moment for me. I'm a huge Beyonce fan, so I was truly happy for her when she announced she was pregnant. I think for any woman, the announcement of pregnancy, and being able to bring a blessing into this world is one of the biggest celebrations in life. So family joined in the excitement of her announcement that night.

3. A Fun Cooking Class with Chef Marco Pierre White - Everyone who knows me, knows that I love to eat. So, when I was given the opportunity to join a cooking class with world renowned Chef Marco Pierre White, I jumped at the opportunity. I was excited to be able to share the recipes with So family members and followers after this experience. I had such a blast and met some amazing people. Oh, and yes the food was delicious.

4. 5 Ways to Keep Your Marriage Exciting - One of my favorite articles/blogs. Marriage is something that I think is so special when it's the right match. It's not easy, but I've watched my parents union grow stronger over the years. For over 45 years they've made it work and continue to maintain their love and affection for one another. I hope to one day experience what they have. Love can be grand!

5. Kids Make the Coolest Things - I love that I get to watch children explore and use their imaginations every day in my work. When you take the time to talk to children and listen to what they have to say you learn so much. Here's a blog I posted of a few creations some of my students made out of magna tiles. Love it!

6. Teresa Giudice from Real Housewives of New Jersey Interview - I love doing celebrity parent interviews. This was my second one and it was so much fun. It's great to see celebs up close and personal because you really get a sense of who they are, especially when you're interviewing them. Teresa was so cool, she even drove herself to this grand opening in Jersey. She didn't arrive with an entourage or anything. She was literally open to meeting everyone. She made the interview easy to do.

7. We're Having a Twitter Party - Back in June 2011, I had my very first Twitter Party for So family and it was hosted by two of the most fabulous mom bloggers, Audrey McClelland and Vera Sweeney. It was fun, exciting and too fast. I fell in love with Twitter Parties after doing this one. So, believe me you will have plenty of opportunities to party with So family on Twitter. Are you ready?

8. Family Involvement in Education - This is an article/blog I wrote for Sofamilyonline.com several months ago and it's dear to me. I truly believe in it and preach this every day. So, it it definitely a highlight from 2011.

9. Guest Post: Lifetime Moms & Confessions of a 30 Something - These were my first two guest post and I was so thrilled to be given these opportunities. I can't wait to dive into more guest posting in the New Year.

10. The New Cover Girl Paula Patton Shares Her Mommy Make-up Tips - This was one of my most exciting celebrity mommy interviews. Paula Patton was, seriously, one of the sweetest celebrities I've met and interviewed. She was so easy to talk to and she was excited to answer any questions, especially questions pertaining to being a mommy. She glowed when talking about her little one. Congrats to her on her performance in Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol!

My Favorite Celebrity Children's Books of 2011

I have a definite appreciation for great children's books. Books can take you to another world and spark your imagination. I love to see children really engaged in a book and excited about reading. As a teacher I'm always looking for new books and authors that bring excitement to the world of children's books. Every year there are always a few celebrities that join this world and bring their books to life. Here are my favorites from 2011. Did you read any of these books with your kids? Do your children love getting new books?

Molly Shannon is a mom, comedian, actress and a children's book author. Shannon has created many characters for TV, Saturday Night Live, and her cutest character comes to us in her children's book, "Tilly the Trickster". This is such a fun book to read with the kids.

Tilly is a mischievous girl who loves nothing more than causing a little trouble. Tilly has a trick for everyone: her mom, dad, brother, classmates, and even her teacher. But when the tables are turned and her family does some scheming of its own, will Tilly decide to change her trickster ways?

In September 2011, Taye Diggs' first children's book entitled Chocolate Me was published by Feiwell and Friends. The book tells the story of a relentlessly teased child who learns to appreciate what sets him apart from his neighbors and is illustrated by Diggs' longtime friend, Shane Evans.

The illustrations in this book are so great. The little boy in this book is so adorable.

Entertainment host, actor and dad Mario Lopez introduced us to his second children's book this year, "Mario and Baby Gia" - a book for ages 3 and up. It's a book about family, love and caring.

Mario, the character in the book, is having a hard time finding someone to play with.When Nana asks Mario to babysit his cousin Gia while she bakes, he finds that babies can be a handful. Baby Gia reminds Mario that a family is built on love and caring.

Fran Drescher, the actress, is the author of "Being Wendy" Fran Drescher says, the book is about a girl who “was afraid to say out loud that she felt different from everyone else.” By the story’s end, Wendy realizes she is “unique, special, and proud of it.”

I love the character's red hair. So adorable.

The singer and actress Dionne Warwick brought us "Little Man" this year. The book was written with David Freeman Wooley and illustrated by Fred Willingham. This story is about a city boy who wants to be a drummer. The book includes a CD with a reading of the story by Ms. Warwick (but, alas, no singing) and drumming by Mr. Wooley.

I love books that come with a CD, so children can hear it read in a different ways by mommy, daddy and in this case Dionne Warwick.

December Stylish Moms & Sons

The Holidays have been truly amazing this year. I've been so busy, I haven't even blogged as much as I've wanted to this season. But, I have been keeping my eye on a few stylish moms. I put together a few pics of some fab celeb moms that have been out and about with their little ones this month. They all have their own style and so do their sons. I love that these moms can run with the kids and still look fabulous doing it, becasue I know it's not easy. I even found a little fashion inspiration from these moms. The November and December Holiday season is my favorite time of year, mainly because I have so many great childhood memories. I still celebrate like I'm a kid to this day. So, now that I'm a blogger and a part of a few social networks, I decided to join in some of the Holiday fun online. Saturday was the perfect Girls Night Out with me and 3 of my closest friends. It was an evening of laughter, talking, dancing and just good fun, that was long over due. Oh, and how could I forget, great food. I had an opportunity that I'm sure any ~~girl~~ woman would love. I was given money to spend on a girls night out and try out a new service. Perfect, not a problem. This opportunity actually came at the right time, because one of my girlfriends just returned from Tanzania on Friday. We were all eager to hear about her trip and experience across the globe. I was afraid she wouldn't make it because of her jet lag, but she came through.

It felt so good to spend a few hours catching up with friends, which I consider to be family. As we get older and our lives get busier, we spend less time together. Thanks to Amex's Serve we had an amazing night and decided to make this a 1 month, mandatory, tradition. Serve is basically an instant way to send money to friends and family through email. I can't believe how fast the money transfers from one account to another.

So, all we had to do was eat, drink, be merry, pay our bill and then I would return every one's money using Serve. Everyone signed up for Serve prior to our dinner except for my friend who just returned from her trip. She signed up the next day. Serve is so much fun to use and super easy. Once we got our bill we split it amongst all 4 of us. It came out to $53.07 per person, including the tip. We used the Serve app on our iPhones and was able to use the "split bill" function that they offer (so perfect). Then I was able to send one of my girlfriends her money right away through email. It was instant and took less than 1 minute to pop up in her account. You can see the screen shots of her phone above. That's what it looked like once we sent the money. I sent money to my other two friends the very next day. I sent it using my Ipad (Serve app) and one using my desktop computer. So, I was able to see that no matter what I used, phone, Ipad or desktop, the money was sent and arrived in less than 1 minute. At least that's how long it took for us.

Above are a few pics of me and my girlfriends. There is one friend missing because she's camera shy and did not want to take any pics. We still love her anyway. So, the first pic is of me and my friend Illiana. We met in college when we were roommates and we've been friends ever since. My friend Kim, dancing in the purple shirt, and I have been friends since 2nd grade. Wow, it's been a while. She's the one who just returned from Tanzania. She looks fab for someone who was experiencing jet-lag. And then there's little old me enjoying the perfect evening at Michael Anthony's on the Jersey City Waterfront in New Jersey.

Family Craft: DIY Holiday Garland

Hey everyone, guess what time it is? It's craft time. And this is a special craft for the family. Since it's the holidays, it's only right that I do a holiday craft post. Yesterday's post was about the gift wrapping and today it's about the decorating. So, who's ready to craft? I was actually inspired to do this craft when I saw handmade felt garland on sale at a store. When I looked at it I knew I could do my own version. My version is the construction paper, easy to do at home with the kids version. Hope you like it! Please tell me what you think. I love to read your thoughts.

1. Cut out construction paper in your shape of chocie. I chose to cut out small Christmas trees. You can cut as little as 10 and as many as 20. The amount and shape is totally up to you.

2. Punch holes at the top of your shapes. You can use a hole puncher for this step (makes it easier).

3. I love to use ribbon whenever I can. Choose your ribbon, string or wire (your choice).

4. Pull the ribbon through all of the cut-outs. Depending on the width of the ribbon, you may have to fold the ribbon when pulling it through.

5. I chose the easy way to decorate my trees, by using peel and stick foam shapes. You can let the kids get creative with the decorating. You can use glitter, stickers, markers, crayons and just about anything.

6. You don't have to decorate each shape. You can actually leave some solid ones in there.

7. Some of the shapes can have very simple decorations, like a big silver star. I love it!

8. Last but not least drap your gorgeous garland arpund your Christmas tree. And don't forget to take some pictures of the families work. Beautiful! Enjoy!

A Little Color & Fun in Holiday Gift Wrapping

Okay, the holidays are special for so many different reasons. Of course, I love seeing family and listening to the happiness in kids voices (neices, nephew & cousins). But, I also have a love for wrapping gifts and color coordinating during the Holidays. However, I don't always have the time to make my gifts look as special as I want, but this year I'm making it happen. You can make gift wrapping fun by getting a little creative with wrapping paper, ribbon and more (like newspapers). Often times the beautifully wrapped gifts get people excited, just becasue they so fabulous. You can even get your kids involved in the wrapping. Make it a family tradition. Don't you just love the way the gifts look under the tree after being wrapped? What are some of your holiday traditions?

Below are some gift wrapping ideas and a few ribbon options, that I found around the web, that will make any gift box look special.

Believe me when I say, some funky bright ribbon goes a long way and makes a huge difference in a gift. Check out the assortment of ribbon I found around the web. There are so many options that will give your holiday gifts the pop they need. I love mixing pink and red ribbon and not just during the Holiday season. I love those colors all year round.

Daddy's Little Girl is an Entrepreneur

I'm always on the search for educational websites, games and toys that also include a fun component for kids. I was so excited to read about the launch of KarmasWorld.com. The newly launched educational website was created by 10 year old Karma Bridges. Did I mention that her dad is none other than the rapper/actor/entrepreneur Ludacris. It's so refreshing to see young people entering into the entrepreneur world. I added an old image of Ludacris and his daughter below. This pic was obviously taken several years ago, becasue she's 10 years old now, but it's all I could find. Daddy and his little girl look so adorable.

I had to check out the website for myself and dabble with all of the fun activities just a click away for kids. Okay, so needless to say I fell in love with the site. Let me just throw right out there that they even have a section dedicated to teachers. How sweet! The site has nine original songs, performed by Karma herself. It's an interactive site that combines, music, games and academics. Fabulous right? Some of the academics they focus on are reading, math and the lessons on the site are grade specific.

A Yummy Breakfast for Families & Aunt Jemima Giveaway

If your house is anything like my sister's house, with 3 kids running around, then you know what the mornings look and feel like. Mornings in almost any house can be chaotic, but when there are kids involved the pressure is on even more just to get out of the house. I spent a few days with my sister and her family and it was like a whirlwind in there, even on the weekends. She never slows down, but she always manages to feed the kids a healthy breakfast. She has a growing bunch, ages 5, 10 and 15, so it's important for them to eat the most important meal of the day, which gets them off to a great start. After attending Blogalicious in October and being introduced to Oatmeal pancakes, I was hooked on a new breakfast that's actually homemade. That's Aunt Jemima Oatmeal Pancakes, from their frozen breakfast foods, to be exact. Mmmmmmmm, they are so good. I really eat them several times a week. So, it was only natural that I introduced my sister and her bunch to them. It was love at first bite. We're a pancake loving family and pretty picky, but these are an A+. Aunt Jemima has other great frozen breakfast foods like waffles and french toast, but the pancakes are my favorite. And guess what, they are made from scratch with natural ingredients such as eggs and milk.

The Aunt Jemima Frozen Oatmeal Pancakes are so easy to prepare, right in the microwave, and you can add some extras to it like fruit. They are definitely perfect for the family on the go. Even without kids I am always rushing around in the mornings and trying to catch my train into the NYC, so a quick, healthy breakfast, that's also homemade, works perfect for me. I usually have fresh blueberry's in my refrigerator, so I can just throw them on top. I even, sometimes throw my breakfast in a to-go-bowl and head out to work. Kids Crafts: Beaded Gifts of Love & Friendship

It's that time again, for some fun kids crafts. Yesterday, I had some fun with beads, colorful ones. Some of my students created beaded bracelets and necklaces. The great part about this project is that they will be giving their creative crafting work away as gifts to their friends in class. They were able to choose one classmate to give the gift to. I think it's the cutest idea, which was thought of by another teacher. Allowing the children to work hard on a project and then give it to a friend as a gift is so sweet. They're learning the gift of giving this holiday season. The kids took this project so seriously. They were particular about the beads they chose and the pattern they created. It was the cutest thing to watch. Every time I tried to give an idea on a bead to add, it was rejected. So, I decided to create my own bracelet, which served as therapy for me. Are your kids making any gifts this holiday season? Do your children exchange gifts with their friends during the holidays? If you're looking for a fun craft that you and the kids can do, then you may want to try this one.

We started with some colorful lanyard. You can use whatever string or yarn you have to do this project. I have to admit I love bright colors. It just makes the color of the beads pop.

This box of beads is so fabulous. The kids get so excited and serious once they start choosing the right beads to add to their string. I love giving children so many options in this project because they all come up with such unique designs. You can purchase beads from your local Micahels store or your local craft store.

This is the beginning of a master piece by one of my students. So adorable. Don't you think?

Here's another master piece in the works. Kids are so creative when you give the freedom to have a little fun with arts and crafts. So, are you ready to start beading with your little ones? Any age can do this craft. If you have older children you may want to purchase different beads, that are more mature. Whatever beads you choose, always remember to have fun!

You know I couldn't let the kids have all of the fun. I made my very own name bracelet. Seriously, it was theraputic to just sit calmly and work on this for a few minutes of my day. Try it!

Take the Kids Out for Free

I absolutely love finding activities for kids that allow them to get creative and of course have fun. What's really fun is when I can find activities that are free. In this economy I know the word "free" makes every parent smile. So, I decided to share four of my favorite weekend activities that every family can take advantage of. Some of you may already take your kids to these weekend activities, but just in case you don't make sure you get a pen and jot down your favorites. I'll sahre some activities for older children, like teens, soon. Enjoy!

1. Lowe's Build & Grow Clinics - Lowe's Nation-wide offer free Saturday clinics for children. Allow your children to build their own wooden toy. Every participant receives an apron, goggles, patch and certificate of merit.

2. B & N Kids (Barnes & Noble) - Barnes and Noble Bookstores offer story time for children across the country. Days and times of story time vary, so check your local store.

3. Ikea Kids Crafts - Many Ikea's Nation-wide offer fun kids crafts 1-2 times a month. Check your nearest Ikea for more information.

4. Lakeshore Learning Saturday Crafts - Kids can decorate and create adorable crafts. This is offered every Saturday at all Lakeshore's. Check your local Lakeshore Learning store.

A Passport to Fun & Learning

Hey guys, so as most of you know I'm a teacher and I'm all about learning through play and fun. I have a great project that will allow your children new educational experiences and some fun. I'm so excited because I just received my culture card which opens me up to all of the museums and cultural institutions in New York City's five boroughs for a discount. Instead of allowing the card to sit in my wallet, like I did last year, I've decided to spend more time with my 4 year old Godson and take him to at least one new museum or institution per month. There are always so many activities and exhibits for children every week throughout the city's cultural institutions.

Now for the Fun passport activity. The director at one of the preschools I work at came up with a brilliant idea that will encourage the parents to use their culture cards more often with their children. She purchased these adorable craft passports (image above) and asked parents to add pictures or to allow the children to write or draw a picture every time they visit a new museum. So, I'm going to do the same with my Godson. It's the perfect idea. Not only will children enjoy all of the new experiences they'll have visiting these great places, but they'll keep a passport of it all. The passport will act as a log or journal of their experiences. This will allow them to soar around the city and enjoy some of what it offers. You can teach them about what a passport is, how to use it and how you will use it with this activity. Isn't it a genius idea? I love it! There are so many great exhibits to see with the kids. Below are some of the exciting exhibits especially for children at the Children's Museum of Manhattan. I'm thinking about taking my Godson to at least one of these. What do you think?

Adventures with Dora and Diego - Children help Dora and Diego go on a journey while using problem solving skills, math skills and language skills.

Arts & Crafts Thursday: If You Love Puppets Shout Hooray!

I didn't make any super fun crafts this week, so I searched the web for the cutest craft for you and your family. I love using puppets during play and learning with my students, so here it is, a paper bag puppet craft. I've made these several times and yes, they are fun to play with. Since the weather's changing and some families are spending more time indoors I thought you may need a simple, easy craft to do at home. Puppets are just that, easy, simple and oh so cute. There are so many options you have when it comes to puppets. I've listed the directions for bird puppets from pacon.com, but you can substitute and create whatever you'd like. After the craft is complete let the kids put on a puppet show and don't hesitate to join the show with them. Even Diddy plays with puppets! Lol. Check out the entertainer, Diddy with his daughter Chance and their puppets (video below). Have a crafty fun time!

What You'll Need:

Rainbow® Bags - 6"x3-5/8"x11" - You can use brown paper bags as well
Construction Paper - Yellow, Orange, Red and other assorted colors.
Pacon® Feathers
Wiggly Eyes - 15mm
Printer - To print out Puppet Pattern.pdf
Fine Tip Black Marker
Glue
Regular or Decorative Edging Scissors

What You'll Have to Do:

1. Create the Beak: Using scissors and Puppet Pattern (pacon.com/projects) or draw your own patterns, cut top and bottom of beak from yellow or orange paper and cut tongue from red paper.

2. Make the Eyes & Rosy Cheeks: Cut two 1-1/4” circles from a bright color for circles around eyes. Glue two 15mm Wiggly Eyes to the center of the circles. Cut two 2” circles from a different bright color for cheeks.

3. Accent: Using a black marker, draw nostrils on top of beak and outline beak pieces.

4. Create the Bird: The bottom of the bag is the bird’s head. Glue bottom of beak to bag under flap. Glue tongue to bottom beak. Glue cheek circles to sides of head. Glue top of beak to head, placed above lower beak. Glue eyes in place, as shown.

5. Embellish: Glue feathers to back of head. Let dry.

Wednesday Family Style: The Explosion of Gray in Kids Fashion

I'm inspired by so many things and one of them is color. Color changes everything. Color can bring life to so many things, whether it's clothing, decor, accessories or flowers, color changes it. I have my favorite colors I like to wear and gray is one of them. I recently saw a toddler dressed in all gray and was inspired by his fabulous style or should I say his mom's style. Happy Black Friday! Thanksgiving left me feeling great. I ate lots of food yesterday and I shared some quality time with family. So, Thanksgiving day is coming to end for me, but the things that I'm thankful for are never ending. Today, I realized that it's the small things that count, like the quality time I had with one of my sisters today. I didn't travel to South Carolina this holiday to visit my parents and other siblings, nieces and nephew, nope. I decided to stay home and cook the entire dinner, with some help from my sister and enjoy it with her and my boyfriend. We had great conversation, like always and watched movies all day. The day was perfect, except when my sister started missing my mom. She's such a big baby, lol.

I love family time and I'm so grateful for it, but I'm also grateful for the things and people I see every day. I love teaching young children and being able to be a part of three different schools. Look at the art work of the children from my school in China Town, NYC. They're such great artist. Remember those turkeys? I posted them last week in an arts and crafts post. Fun to make! Oh, and look at the school playground in the East Village that was covered in leaves on Wednesday. Aren't the leaves beautiful? I'm thankful for the beauty of the leaves and the smiles it brings to children's faces when they run through it. It's the small things that make me happy.

I couldn't end this blog of thanks without saying that I am so thankful for being able to share my love for all things family and fun with you guys. I love my blog and website family. Usher & His Boys! Get Their Kid Style for Your Little Toddlers

So, Usher was caught spending some quality daddy time with his boys in NYC this past weekend. They were headed to Balloon Saloon, which is one of the coolest NYC stores for kids. They sell every kind of balloon you can think of plus toys. Cool, right? Any time I see him with his boys, they all look so laid back, cool, and always stylish. These pics show that it was one of those stylish laid back days. The boys look adorable. Check out how these boys rock their weekend style.

Looks like they bought some goodies from the store. See some of the cool blow-up animals in the background (pic below). The outside of the store is covered with blow-up animals and balloons. Definitely set up to get any kids attention. I'm sure they had fun in there.

America Has A New Supernanny!

Hey guys, did you know that America has a new Supernanny? Well, the word is out and she's a Supenanny like no other. The Lifetime Network will introduce Deborah Tillman, America's Supernanny, to us on November 29th. I have to admit, I'm excited!

When I first heard about this show, I was excited, but after I found out our new Supernanny has over 19 years of experience in Childcare and Education, I couldn’t wait to watch her in action. I’m a Special Education Preschool Teacher, so I’m sure with her background she’ll be pulling tricks out of her sleeves every time she meets a new family.

Last week I had the chance to chat with America's Supernanny and I could feel her passion for helping children and families through her words. She assured me that her 19 years of experience play a huge role in the show. So, I’m sure you’re asking, "What makes her different from other Supernanny’s?" Well, America’s Supernanny is taking more risk. She’s entering homes of the families that we see every day, single parent homes, two parent homes, homes with two moms or two dads. She wants to empower all families. The Muppets Are Coming to Thanksgiving Dinner!

The Muppets are getting back together and trying to save their theater in the all new movie, The Muppets. On Thanksgiving day, we can enjoy the holiday with the gang in a movie theater near you.

I am the biggest Muppets fan. My favorite Muppets movie was The Muppets Take Manhattan. I saw it in the theater, then had the movie on vhs (remember those tapes) and even had the book. I drove my mother insane, because she had to read the book with me almost every night. I was definitely a die hard muppet fan. It's hard to say who my favorite Muppet is, because I love them all. Of course I especially loved Kermit and Ms. Piggy, but I think my all time favorite was Janice. Do you remember her? She was one of the band members, the lead guitarist. She had the deep voice and the golden blonde hair. Oh, and who can forget her full lips. I loved her style. She's in the pic above in the right corner. Who's your favorite Muppet?

I'm a big kid at heart, so I definitely have to see this movie. Check out what real kids think about it so far. A Turkey Craft for the Kids. Gobble, Gobble, Gobble!

Gobble, Gobble, Gobble! Thanksgiving is around the corner. Are you looking for a way to get the kids involved in decorating for the big day. Well, I have the cutest craft for your kids to do at home and then place on the dinner table or around the house. It's easy, fun and the best part is each one can have it's own unique look. You may even have some of the required supplies at home. I guarantee your kids will have a blast. Make sure you let them spread their creative wings. Happy Crafting!!!

All you need is an empty water bottle (the size is your choice), construction paper, glue, scissors, tissue paper and a piece of foam or something for the top of the turkey's head.

Cover the bottle in glue, but not too much. Glue sticks work best for this project.

Find a piece of foam or anything you have that will give the turkey a slight bump for the head. I cut a piece of faom and glued it to the top of the water bottle.

After the water bottle is covered with glue, place the tissue paper on top and cover the bottle completely with it. Choose any color tissue paper you'd like. Actually, allow the children to choose the color.

Cut out 5 feathers in different colors, unless the kids want to use the same color. Whatever your little artist wants will be perfect. It's their turkey creation.

Glue or staple all of the feathers together. Then glue the bottom, of one side, of the feathers and place it on the back of the turkey. You may also need to add a small piece of tape to hold the feathers in place.

You can use just about anything for the turkey's face. Let the children get creaive. Here I used construction paper and a black sharpie.

Check out the turkey one of my students made. He actually used a small water bottle, cut out his own feathers and he used foam pieces for the face. How adorable is his little turkey? So, what do you think of the turkey craft? Will your kids have a gobble, gobble, good time?

Gwen Stefani Creates a Harajuku Mini Kids' Craze!

Did you get caught in the Harajuku Mini Kids' craze at your local Target store this past Sunday? Gwen Stefani launched her new kids line on Sunday at Target stores nationwide. Many parents and aunties, like myself, were waiting for the line to launch. I had to check it out on Sunday, I just couldn't resist. So, I made it into my local Target store on Sunday morning and snapped a few pics of some of my favorite pieces. And I couldn't leave without something for my 5 year old neice. Hey, Gwen Stefani even shopped at Target with one of her sons to score some of her own pieces. The line is so Gwen Stefani. I absolutely love it. What are your favorite pieces? 6 Ideas for Organizing the Kids at Home

This post was inspired by my recent trip to a friend's house. My friend, who is a mom of three, and lives in New York City in a pretty small apartment is so organized that I was inspired. With all that she has going on in her busy family life, I don't know how she manages to keep her place super-organized all of the time. I have to say I'm impressed. She, like so many moms, has to juggle different activities, schedules and little people (including her hubby), but through it all the kids are always organized at home. Every time I go to her house I seriously take notes. So, I decided to share some of her secrets with you guys. These aren't the exact products she uses, but they are close enough. She has a version of each of the products I picked below. These are my favorites. I know every mom has her tricks to staying organized, so please feel free to share them below. Every day I walk to work from the train and see at least one pregnant woman. It's like there's a baby boom in NYC. I think pregnant women are the most beautiful women, becasue they have that special glow. Many of them also have some great style and I love that they all rock it so differently. The days of frumpy maternity dresses are long gone. Preggo's (what I call pregnant women) are rocking heels, skinny jeans, fabulous dresses and so much more.

I look to all of the pregnant women for inspiration, so when it's my turn to sport that special glow, I'll do it in style. It's Kids Craft Time: T-Shirt Design for Kids (Webisode from the past)

So, as you may already know I love crafts for kids and the entire family. Creating a custom t-shirt with kids or for kids is so much fun. I actually shot the webisode below last year, but I had a blast doing it with a friend's daughter, so I thought I'd share it with your guys. We headed to a fun craft store, called SpaceCraft Brooklyn. It was so cool, especially for kids. The store was filled with everything you can think of to craft and the table was covered in paint, which I loved. It was okay to get a little messy and to make a mess. Exactly what I like.

It's A Book Sale For Kids! Reading With Kids Is Fun

Hey guys, it's been a few days since I've blogged, but the past week was super busy at school with my students. The best part was that one of the schools I work at had their annual Scholastic Book Sale. It was actually early this year. Did I tell you, I love a book sale.

Reading books with kids is so much fun and you can work on so many different skills while doing it. I call them hidden skills or play and learn skills. The point is that the kids don't even know their learning new skills or reviewing old ones. So, let the reading adventures begin!

How often do you read to or with your kids? What are their favorite kinds of books to read? I shared a couple of my favorites below. Check it out!

So, as you can see there were plenty of books to choose from and they were going fast. Families get excited when the Scholastic book sale comes rolling in.

Here is one of my favorite series of books, generally for kids ages 4-6. Such a great book to get kids talking about their nightly routine. Froggy is such a lovable character. Kids usually fall in love with him, both boys and girls. At this book sale I actually purchased the Froggy Phonics box set, which comes with 10 books and 2 workbooks. It's fabulous for beginner readers and for children working on recalling information from a story. The books in the set are simple, short easy reads.

Oh, I love this little character Olivia. She is always up to something. This is one of the Olivia books I purchased at the sale. I actually purchased two bookds fromt he Olivia series. She's a fun little pig. Do any of your children like the Olivia series?

Well, the book sale closed up and rolled out on Friday, but that just means I'll be in the stores purchasing more books when needed. But there's nothing like the Scholastic sale. Can't wait until next year. I actually purchased way more books then I need for my students and family, so I just may be giving away several. Stay tuned for more info soon! Chef Aaron McCargo Jr Shares His Family Breakfast Secrets

Aunt Jemima Frozen Breafast hosted an evening of breakfast for dinner with special guest, Chef Aaaron McCargo from Big Daddy's House on the Food Network. It was held during the Blogalicious weekend in Washington D.C. Chef McCargo was the season four winner of The Next Food Network Star. He's teamed up with Aunt Jemima Frozen Breakfast to show us, especially families, how to start the morning off right. He uses recipes from his new cookbook Simply Done Well Done to give us options for the most imortant-delicious-meal of the day, breakfast!

Kids Halloween Party - Last Minute Party Tips & Ideas

I had a spooktacular time at a Halloween party for my preschoolers on Friday. It was given by a student organization at NYU (New York University). The University students went all out trying to make the dressed up preschoolers happy and entertained for the two hours they were there. I have to say, I was very impressed and yes, the party was a hit amongst the little party-goers.

So, if you're looking to throw a last minute Halloween party or if you want to add a little extra to your party then look no further, because I have a few tips for you. I just have to share some the simple party ideas the University students had, as well as some of my own. First, just remember this word, STATIONS! Setting up stations throughout the party is key. They keep the party organized, simple and easy to navigate trhough. Check out the details below and let me know what you think.

1. Halloween Bags - These are a must for a Halloween party or any party for that matter. Kids need something to hold all of their goodies. In this case they had to hold their trick or treat goodies, which was not candy. Yippeeeeee, let's save the teeth!

You can set up a station for children to decorate their own bags or if you don't have time for that, just buy a pack of bags.

2. Art Station - You can keep this station simple and believe me the kids will have fun. This is your time to get creative with supplies you already have at home or buy a few extras to make the station just the way you want it. Get out the crayons, markers, colored pencils and construction paper. Kids can color pages from a coloring book, decorate their own pumpkin or create a pumpkin mask. Make it FUN!

3. Science Station - Introduce kids to an exciting science ecperiment that will get them saying Oooooo and Ahhhhhhh. How about creating smoke. How, you say? Warm water, food coloring and dry ice. An adult or teenager will have to man this station. The age of the party participants determines if they can do the project on their own.

4. Sensory Station - Let the touching, feeling and smelling begin. Create touch and feel boxes or you can call this station "Guess what's in the box". Make sure you put something slimey in there.

5. Create a Halloween Cookie - Everyone loves to eat, especially kids. I thought this was a cute idea. Cookies, icing and pumpkin sprinkles. Mmmmmmmm! Let the kids do the decorating. Just be careful they don't spread too much icing.

6. Halloween Picture Time - Set up an area in the room or outside with decorations that everyone can stand in front of and strike a pose. Kids have lots of fun in this station and so do the adults.

7. Halloween Story Time - End the party with a Halloween story book. This is a picture of my favorite Halloween book and me reading it. Love reading this story.

Craft for Kids - Fall Leaves Stained Glass

Fall is one of my favorite times of year, because of the cool weather and the gorgeous leaves. Since I'm somewhat of a crafter and enjoy making DIY crafts with kids, I figured I'd share one of my favorites. You can atually make a gorgeous fall leaves stained glass with your little ones and then decorate the house with it. Just look at the color of this leaf below, gorgeous right? If you can find a gorgeous leaf like this, use it.

Here's a video below of a fall leaves stained glass craft I did a few months ago with a good friend of mine at her art studio. Unfortunaelty, her art studio for kids isn't open to the public anymore. But, she still uses it to create fabulous bags. Check out the video below.

Here's another example of a stained glass project. It's so cute. This is definitely a craft that has to be supervised if you choose to use the iron. So, what do you think of the craft? Would you try it?

The New Cover Girl Paula Patton Shares her Mommy Make-Up Routine (Watch Video)

The news is out that Paula Patton is the new "Easy, Breezy, Beautiful, Cover Girl" for the Queen Collection. The announcement was made last week by Cover Girl via Twitter. This past Saturday she hosted a live chat via Twitter and Facebook with her fans. Her live chat officially kicked off the new partnership. That same day she visited Blogalicious 2011, the social gathering celebrating diversity in the blogosphere, in Washington, D.C.

In January Paula will help Cover Girl Queen Collection introduce Vivid Impact Eyeliner, LashFanatic Mascara and Natural Hue Matte Pressed Powder. Exciting!

Who doesn't love a scoop of ice cream or lowfat yogurt? Summer's gone, but hey, you can still indulge in a summer-time favorite right in the comfort of your bathroom. And guess what, you don't have to worry about any extra calories, becasue it's a spa treatment not an edible treat. I was in Orlando, FL for a few days this past week and I stayed at a cool resort and spa. When I went to the spa for a pedicure I walked right into their display of ME! Bath products. I've heard of the them before, but never smelled or saw them up close and personal. Needless to say I fell in love and had to take a treat back to my room asap. Oh yes and they added a scoop into my pedicure. It left my skin feeling smooth and really moisturized. Moisture is important. So Nice!

I wish I was able to take home the Shower Sherbert, but I was afraid it wouldn't make it in my luggage. I heard it's a scrub and has a great texture. I'll get my hands on it soon!

Game Review: A Fun Matching Game - Mouse Match

Hey guys, I finally had the chance to do a blog about one of my favorite games for children 4 and older. I seriously play this game at least 3 times a week with my students. They love it! Today's fun game is "Mouse Match" from Fundex Games. It comes with the cutest pieces, but more importantly it's packed with tons of skills that the kids can review and they won't even know it. The one thing I love about playing games with my students is that I can introduce so many new games that I call "play and learn" games, which is the same as camouflaged learning. Kids play, play, play and learn at the same time. The best thing about "play and learn" games is that kids don't even know they're learning new skills and reviewing old ones. Parents this is your opportunity to get creative and make the games you play work in favor of your kids. If they need to work on their math skills, then focus on that and push a kittle more counting or adding when playing games. Check out the webisobe review I did on Mouse Match. Cupcake Tattoos - Fun in the Kitchen with Cupcakes

Okay, so this past weekend I decided to get creative and have a little fun in my kitchen. I love all of those reality cake and dessert shows, but I'm always intimidated to try any kind of decorations on my baked goods. I usually stick to the traditional icing and call it a day. But, I've seen cake/cupcake tattoos in a few magazines and I set out on my quest to find them and then try them myself. You can find tons of these online, but I wanted some right away, so I researched and wound up at my local Michaels store (love that craft store). They had a nice section of Duff Goldman products and that's where it all started. Since Duff Goldman is well known for his amazing cakes I had an instant trust in his products. The Duff Goldman cupcake tattoos were starring me in the face and calling my name. There were a few options, but I decided to go with the pink and black animal prints. So, do you want to know how they turned out? Watch my video and you'll see. I'll tell you this much, it was easy, fun and I'm still eating my animal print cupckes now (uggh, the calories).

TuTu Cute! Fall Skirts for Girls

Hey Guys, so I'm moving away from the birthday party theme and talking about a little fashion for girls. I love the, oh so popular, tutu style that mommies have been rocking on their little girls. Since, the weather is getting a little chilly and the tutu's may be put away for next spring or summer, what's the next best option for girls? Well, two of my favorite stores have the cutest fall skirts available for girls. J.Crew's Crewcuts always has a tulle skirt for girls and mommies (if you too like that style) and Gap Kids always has options that are definitely cutsie. Do you dress your girls in tutu's? Do you like the tutu style on little girls or just on babies? I actually think the style can be cute on both.

It's Party Time! Kid's Birthday Party Invitations

Hey Guys! Since I went to my Godson's Birthday party last week, I'm still in kids birthday party mode. Oh and don't forget there were two 4 year old Birthday Parties in my school on Friday. So, I am definitely in, to be more specific, 4 year old Birthday Party mode. I love the planning of a party and invitations are a must. Even though everyone loves evite, I think a traditional cutesie invitation for a kids party is a must have. So, here are some I love.

Dinosaurs are so awesome. If your child loves Dino's then this is the perfect invitation. The blue and green actually go great together.

Mommy Solange Shares a New Song & Hangs Out in LA

The talented mom and always rocking to her own style Solange Knowles was out in LA this weekend for the 9th Annual Teen Vogue Young Hollywood Party. The Party was at the Paramount Studios in Los Angeles, CA. Solange looks fabulous in that yellow mini. She even looked fab while she Djed at the party that night. I've always loved that this young mom moves to her own beat and is never afraid to rock her own style, whether anyone likes it or not. Hope I'm that afb when I'm a mom.

She recently shared a song called "Favors" that she wrote years ago. She recently tweeted about the song, making note that it has nothing to do with her up-coming album. Well, I can't wait to hear her new album. Check out the pics below and listen to the new song.

A Bouncing Birthday Party with No Clean-up

Last weekend I attended my Godson's 4th Birthday Party. Every year his mother, one of my Bff's, out does herself and finds a cool spot to host his party. This year's cool spot was perfet for a growing and active 4 year old boy. I headed out to Oceanside, New York to the Birthday destination, Bounce U. And yes, we did exactly that, bounce around the entire place. Last years party was at an indoor gym, but nothing like Bounce U.

It was filled with some really fun things to just go crazy on and have a bouncing good time. So, the birthday boy and all of his little friends ran up and down the first room for a good amount time and then were swept to another room with even more goodies. I was most excited about not having to clean up or set up a thing. The Bounce U staff was amazing and there were always 2-4 staff members in the rooms with the party. They guided the children and reminded the adults not to worry about a thing.

As an auntie, Godmother and teacher, I've been to tons of Birthday parties and kid places and I was pretty happy and excited about Bounce U. it was an overall great experience. My only request would ebe even more play time in the Bounce rooms and extra time in the party area to actually open the gifts. Check out some of my pics from the bouncing fun day.

The Biggest Hit of the day for the 3 and under crowd was the Rody. Seriously, one little boy would not get off of this thing. He bounced around the entire party with it and even sat on it for all of the group pictures. Too adorable.

Moms Spend More Time Parenting Than Dads - Is Mommy "Me Time" Extinct?

Do you believe in equality in parenting? Well, a new National Survey, called "Moms Who Do More", has found that 48% of working moms say they spend more time each day parenting than on their careers. That is more than half of the 19% of working dads who say the same.

What about mommy "Me Time"? Do you get to enjoy or experience "me time" often? If so, how often? Some moms consider it to be extinct. Nearly 70%of working moms have 1 hour or less to themselves per day. More than 20% stated that they had less than 15 minutes per day. This is all do to the fact that moms are picking up slack at home and work. It's like being on double duty each day.

The moms and dads in the survey were also asked to add up how many hours they spend parenting each day. Moms average 7.5 hours per day and dads averaged out to 4.3 hours per day. For the year moms put in a difference of an extra 1150 hours of parenting duties. The numbers really tell it all. Moms, try to find some time in each day for you. You've earned it!

Kids Make the Coolest Things - Wooden Toy Trains

I say it all the time, "Kids make the coolest things". They really do. Kids will surprise you with their creativity if you give them a chance. Since I work with 3-5 year olds every day, usually one on one or in small groups, I get to witness these little people open up their creativity. Kids are so influenced by their environment, especially the books that they read or are read to them.

A few weeks ago I read a book about the different trains in New York City, such as subways underground, railroads and elevated trains. I read this book with one student and then we had time to discuss it afterwards. The discussion time is the best part, because you find out if the child was even interested in the book and what their feelings are about it. So, my student was thrilled to tell me that he rides an elevated train or which he called the train that goes outside. If my goal was to get him to use more language and verbally express himself, well he did it.

The next activity after the book and the discussion was to hit the floor and incorporate everything we talked about into play. Play is definitely fun time for the kids, but they don't know that they are secretly using their creative thinking skills and of course a ton of other skills. How great is that? I was absolutely amazed at his finished product. I did not give him any direction, but I did foster some conversation throughout the play. He created, in his own words, "The train I take with mommy." A Cute Nightlight for the Kiddies
I think this is the cutest nightlight ever. If you have a child who is afraid of the dark, then check out the Twilight Turtle.
